At the intersection of Oberlin's campus and community, the Conservatory is located right next to Tappan Square and the shops and restaurants have Oberlin's Main Street. The Conservatory Complex includes four interconnected buildings that are home to performances, classes, practice and rehearsal rooms, recording sessions, faculty studios, comfortable hangouts, and the renowned Conservatory Library.

The Oberlin Conservatory focuses on pre-professional training for undergraduate students in classical, jazz, and contemporary performance, as well as composition and electronic music. Because we focus on the undergraduate level, students don't have to wait behind graduate students to take on leadership roles or performance roles.

Bibbins is our main academic building, and it spaces serve as both classrooms as well as places for students to practice and rehearse. Almost all of the classrooms are equipped with Steinway grand pianos. And these spaces can be reserved online by students. We enjoy working with very talented faculty members who spend their hours teaching lessons, coaching ensembles, as well as offering us mentorship in various ways.

One of my favorite things about Oberlin is the guest artists we bring in for performances, residencies, and master classes. It's one reason why we'd like to say, "The world comes to Oberlin!" Warner Concert Hall is the home to a variety of activities such as weekly studio classes, recitals, and other performances. This hall as well as other halls on campus can be reserved by students, and they have audio and video recording capabilities.

Oberlin hosts nearly 500 student, faculty, and guest artists performances per year. All of these performances are open to the community, and nearly all of them are free. One of my favorite performances was when Joyce DiDonato came to perform her Songplay album in Finney Chapel.

The Oberlin Conservatory Library is one of the largest music libraries in an academic setting. We have more than 440,000 items, including scores, recordings, periodicals, and books on music. Here at Oberlin, we have important Special Collections in jazz and American music. We are also home to the world's largest privately owned collection of jazz recordings and memorabilia.

Other helpful resources here in the Conservatory include the Office of Professional Development, the Instrument Depot, and tutoring sessions in music theory and writing. Kohl Building is home to the jazz, music theory, and music history departments. It has a world-class recording studio and performance space. Many faculty, guests artists, and student ensembles have recorded here in Clonick Recording Studio. Oberlin has its own music label and it has released more than 30 recordings.

Clonick is the main rehearsal space for Oberlin Jazz Ensemble. Additionally, various weekly studio classes happen here. This is another space that students can reserve online for audio and video recording. Here at Oberlin, I feel lucky to be able to combine my interests in both English and piano performance. I also feel lucky to watch my peers grow as musicians every day, as well as share our music with the community.
